Carport Advantages

Would you like to know some of the advantages of having carport?  If so, then you’ve come to the right place.  In this article, we’ll take a look at a few reasons that make owning one is such a great thing.

Cost

Perhaps first and foremost, one should consider the cost of a carport as the biggest advantage.  Whereas a garage is a large, expensive undertaking, a carport is really a garage replacement and since it so much cheaper to build a carport, this is one of the reasons (if not the biggest reason) as to why people go this route.  In these times, when you just don’t know what the economy is going to do from one day to the next, it really is important to keep the cost of everything in mind before, during, and after you make your decisions.  Remember, stretch that dollar for all you can!

DIY

The fact that building a carport can be a great do-it-yourself project is not only a good thing unto itself, but also ties in nicely with the concept of saving money, too.  You can take the DIY attitude all the way and start completely from scratch, drawing up plans, getting the raw materials, constructing the carport yourself.  This way has the added benefit of being able to build exactly what you want and how you want it.  However, it does take the most work on your part and if you’re not entirely handy, it may prove to be too difficult.

There are alternatives, though.  You can find ready to make plans online or at your local hardware store.  This will take the planning aspect away from you, which is great if you don’t have a knack for architecture.  But it still leaves you with the raw materials to contend with.

If you’re not really handy in the least, then you can get a pre-made, ready to put together carport kit.  These can come in different kinds of metal or wood or a combination.  Now, you’re still likely have to make some cuts or do some drilling, but it will save you the headache of having to make sure things are cut right and line up correctly.

No matter which way you go here, you’ll have the satisfaction of having built it yourself!

Flexibility

Carports have many uses other than just parking cars beneath them.  Do you need to work on your car?  Carports offer protection from both the sun and the rain.  You can store motorcycles or boats or RVs (if your carport is large enough) beneath them.  In fact, both bicycles and motorcycles can share the same space with a car and still have nice protection.

But you don’t have to limit your uses to just those involving vehicles.  If you like to cook outdoors, you can do that under a carport in all kinds of weather.  Maybe you’re into lifting weights.  Why not put your exercise equipment outside and enjoy the fresh air?  I feel that putting a treadmill under your carport offers the best of both worlds as you get the convenience of a treadmill while still getting to be outdoors!  Here, you really are only limited by your imagination.

Of course, these are not the only advantages, and there are some disadvantages of a carport as well, but if you’re on the fence over whether carports are right for you, then we hope this post has helped you decide.
