Alternative Carport Uses

Do you have a carport but no car to park under it? That’s okay because you can still put that carport to use. There really are lots of uses for your carport that don’t even involve parking a car.  In fact, we’ve even some people put actual garage flooring in their carports!  (If you’re interested in that at all, then reading up on garage flooring ideas is what you’ll want to do)  In this article, we’ll take a quick look at a few of them. Hopefully, these ideas will spark a few of your own. Now, let’s get on with it!

Storage

An obvious use of your otherwise unused carport is using it for storage space. You can really put anything you want to within it, but for obvious reasons (such as having no real way to lock things up) you wouldn’t want to store any valuables.

However, maybe you have something like a weight bench or treadmill that you no longer room for inside your house? Putting things like these outside without sheltering them is just throwing away good money as they will get ruined by the elements. But if you put them under a carport, then they will be protected for a long time to come.

And since they are heavy and unwieldy, a thief will have a hard time casually walking off with them.

At Home Picnics

Want to have a fun, out of doors gathering of family and friends but have nowhere close enough to go? Then why not have it at home and underneath your carport?

This is a great idea because not only will you get to spend some quality time with your family, but you’ll be right at home where you can use your own facilities or utilities if the need should arise. Food will be easier to prepare, too. And by having your picnic/gathering beneath your carport, you’ll no longer be at the mercy of dealing with the weather and anything it might feel like dishing out on you. Extreme heat or rain can truly be a thing of the past now.

Vacuum Cleaner

Ah yes, but not just any old vacuum cleaner. A central vacuum cleaner that you don’t have to lug all over the house to use. Instead, you put the base unit (the vacuum itself) into the carport — assuming your carport is attached to your house, of course — and then you run hoses through your walls that terminate in a connection in each room of your house. Then, when you want use the vacuum cleaner all you have to do is attach a house to the connection, vacuum the room, detach the hose and carry it to the next room with you.

This really does make cleaning your carpets easy, and since you probably don’t have a garage, then what better place to put the base unit outside under your carport?

Conclusion

The above ideas are really just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more things you can do with a carport and in some future article we’ll go over more of them. In the mean time, take these ideas and see what else you can come up with on your own.
